Same I found a location where there's alot of provost dudes.. the one you found joins them and it gives you a perception perk. He pretty much died on me immediately.

In my playthrough he died in a battle at ranger HQ. he does move but he doesnt actively follow you around but if you start combat and hes on otherside of map he will run to you as hes not in combat yet without stopping and usually appears the next turn. this could be an issue depending on the map like the underground ...
